Afternoon Service: Yizkor & N’ilah (Yom Kippur)

Yizkor
September 18 at 3:45pm in the Temple Sinai Sanctuary
Yizkor, which means "remembrance" in Hebrew, is a memorial service.   It is a custom at Temple Sinai to honor the memory of family members or other departed loved ones by attending this service.

We also compile a "Book of Remembrance" that lists the names of those we are remembering.  This book is distributed just before the Yizkor afternoon service on Yom Kippur.  To have a name or names listed in the Book of Remembrance, click here.  In order for us to complete our Book of Remembrance on time, we ask that you please submit this form so that it is received in our office by August 27, 2010.

N'ilah
follows the Yizkor service and takes place in the Sanctuary
N'ilah, which means "closing", is the concluding service of Yom Kippur.  The ark holding the Torah is kept open throughout this service, and it is symbollically our last chance to atone before “God seals our judgment in the book.”  The service is sometimes referred to as the closing of the gates.  The N'ilah service ends with a long blast of the Shofar.

Break the Fast
Follows the N'ilah service and this year will take place in Stern Hall.

No tickets are required for the Yizkor Service, the N'ilah Service or the Break the Fast.
