Family School

Looking for a Different Way to Do Jewish Education?
Consider Temple Sinai’s Family School

What if Religious School were family time? What if instead of being locked into a weekly class for your child, you studied together as a family once a month? What if your family had support to do Jewish together at home on Shabbat, at the dinner table, and in the car on the way to soccer? What if you built a deep sense of community with a small number of other families? What if your child's Jewish learning weren't just one more thing to do but were an opportunity to deepen your family's Jewish experience? That’s Temple Sinai’s Family School.

Family School …

  •  Meets once/month on Sunday afternoons from 2:00-5:00pm for 9 sessions (4th-6th graders also participate in regular Hebrew program one hour/week)
  •  Is open to kids in K thru 6th grade and their parents/adult family members/siblings
  • Costs the same as regular Religious School
  • “Counts” the same as regular Religious School (is a fully recognized path to bar/bat mitzvah)

Family School …

  • Explores one curricular theme each month such as: the history of Judaism, what is Jewish music (featuring learning with our cantor), ways to enrich your Passover experience, everyday life in Israel (featuring our own Israeli-American rabbi), and more
  • Is families learning together & kids and adults learning separately
  • Includes hands-on learning, community building, art and music, service learning/tikkun olam, community field trips
  • Has take-home learning opportunities each month to entice, challenge and engage you
  • Is taught by a Family Educator plus a few of our great staff, with visits from our clergy

Family School …

  • Brings Jewish learning and life into participants’ family life
  • Makes Jewish learning fun, flexible and happening in real time
  • Develops a strong sense of community by building friendships with other Jewish families
  • Is for families who are looking for an out-of-the-box Jewish learning experience, who have kids for whom conventional Religious School doesn’t work, who are looking for a more time-flexible program, who want to explore the role of Judaism in their family together
  • Might be the perfect fit for YOU
