Changing Perspectives on Divine Punishment in Light of the Holocaust
Tuesday, August 30, 2022
7:00 – 9:00pm
Free for Temple Sinai members and their guests.
Rabbi Jeremy Sher is the Staff Chaplain serving Mount Zion Hospital at UCSF Health, and is a member of OHALAH: The Association of Rabbis and Cantors for Jewish Renewal. He has his ordination from Organic Torah Institute, a Master of Divinity degree in Judaism from Harvard Divinity School, and is a Board Certified Chaplain. He is also a regular at Temple Sinai's Torah study on Saturday mornings. Rabbi Jeremy will flesh out for us how misfortune was considered a divine punishment through the Biblical, Talmudic, and medieval eras, and how the Holocaust forced Jewish thinkers and leaders to rethink this concept of misfortune, and ultimately reject it. This talk will take place in-person in the Albers Chapel of Temple Sinai or you can view by livestream.
