On Friday, January 10, Temple Sinai welcomes Yaron Shavit, Deputy Chairperson of the Executive of the Jewish Agency, who was elected by the progressive factions of the World Zionist Congress as a special speaker at services.

The new elections, where diaspora Jews get to vote, will be taking place later this year. Please join us to understand the significance of the election, and the significance of Mr. Shavit, a Reform Jew, serving Israel in such a prestigious role.

Yaron Shavit is the Deputy Chairperson of the Executive of the Jewish Agency for Israel, responsible for the Jewish Peoplehood arena within the Jewish Agency. Since being elected to the position in 2021, Yaron has been working diligently to create vibrant two-way bridges between Israeli and diaspora Jewish communities world-wide. He is particularly proud of his role in mobilizing the Jewish Agency and Israeli society to assist refugees from Ukraine. In March 2022, within 10 days, Yaron organized the purchase and transfer of 340 tons of clothing and other essentials. In October 2023, Yaron again led similar massive efforts to equip 384 Community Response teams from across Israel's borders following the horrific attack of Oct. 7th.
