Swords of Iron: Israel's Longest War
Wednesday, August 21, 7:00pm, Zoom only
Featuring Professor Alon Burstein, Department of Political Science, Tufts University, Greater Boston, MA.
The Israel-Hamas War has proven to be Israel's longest, most complex military engagement. Despite the IDF's clear military superiority, it has been unable to defeat Hamas for over 10 months, while the other conflict arenas are showing increasing signs of escalation.
Evaluating the multi-faceted nature of this conflict, this talk will review the war's key arenas, including the hostage situation, military engagements in Gaza, Lebanon, and the regional arena, the humanitarian situation in Gaza as well as escalations in the West Bank.
Professor Alon Burstein is a Visiting Assistant Professor and an Israel Institute Fellow in the Department of Political Science at Tufts University. He received his PhD in Political Science at Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2021, analyzing religionization and secularization processes violent groups undergo in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
