The September meeting of our Sinai Coexist group will feature guest speakers—a pair of Palestinian and Israeli peace activists who are touring the U.S. together. Osama Illiwat, a Palestinian who was born in in Jerusalem and lives in Jericho, has dedicated his life to nonviolent resistance, working with groups like Combatants for Peace and the Interfaith Encounter Association. Rotem Levin, an Israeli born in Ein Vered, is a medical doctor who has also worked with Combatants for Peace and organized Israeli-Palestinian dialogue programs. They will share their life stories, what led them to peace activism, and their vision for a shared future of security, equality, and justice for both Israelis and Palestinians. All temple members are welcome to attend. Advance registration requested.
Sinai Coexist is a new discussion, education, advocacy, and action group rooted in core Jewish values for Temple members. We seek a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on self-determination, respect, justice, and security for both peoples.
Sinai Coexist’s guiding principles include care for the lives of all people in the region, both Israeli and Palestinian. In the current Gaza war, we support an immediate ceasefire and release of all hostages. Group members learn about and discuss aspects of this complex topic at monthly meetings, plan education and advocacy activities in working groups, and come together attending public events that reflect our shared values.
If you share our values and would like to join us at this meeting, please send an email to coexist-steering@googlegroups.com
